Glasgow regularly pulls in the greatest global artists and musical events, but one of the main reasons it's got one of the best reputations for music is the importance it places on allowing new, creative acts the opportunity of being heard and seen, to develop within a hive of appreciation you'd be lucky to find anywhere else. Some bands might reach the big stage, some might not. But if you visit the top ten venues below regardless of who's on stage, you'll be treated to a real insight into our passionate, music-driven heart, and will learn quickly what makes us all get out of bed in the morning.
In the many years since the Second World War, Glasgow has built a worldwide reputation for being a harshly honest crowd. This City has emerged slowly from a working class, hard-grafted upbringing, and if its citizens pay over their hard-toiled cash for some entertainment but don't get what they came for, well, you'll definitely hear about it! As the story went among terrified artists back in the day, if you could win over the audience in Glasgow, you could conquer any crowd in the world!
If the performance is great though, you'll be swept up in an unrelenting wave of energy that won't finish until the performance does. It's been said regularly by artists around the world that Glasgow audiences pulverise them with more heart and spirit than they'd hope for anywhere else in the world, so I'd suggest that if you've enough gusto in you to last the show, simply turn up at any of the venues below when you're in Glasgow, depending on your tastes, and join in on an evening that you'll never forget.
